TKAM Assignment #3


1. Auspicious means promising success. Benevolence means having or showing good will. Incomprehensible means incapable of being understood. Melancholy means depressed or sad.

2. The house scares the children because they don't know what Boo Radley is like. They have only heard rumors.

3. Scout doesn't like the teacher, but Calpurnia tells here to go try it again.

4. Maybe someone is leaving things in the tree for the children.

5. The narrator of Chapter 4 is Scout, the girl.

6. The significance of the gum and the tree is proving that the trees on Boo's property aren't poisoned, like the rumor says they are.

7. Scout is non-communicative with Atticus because she likes to keep to herself.

8. Ms. Dubois to the kids is a friend. The boys won't let Scout play with them because they have "better things to do" then play with her.

9. Yes, Miss Maudie is racist, which means she dislikes other people for their race or skin color.

10. I think Boo Radley got his nickname because he scares everybody.

11. The reason Scout beats up Dill and the main problem in this chapter is that Dill is ignoring scout and she is rather upset about it.

12. Uncle Jack Finch asks Maudie to marry him every Christmas, but she turns him down because she doesn't love him.
