1. Jem felt completely sure that Tom Robinson would be acquitted of all charges, due to the evidence given by Atticus.

2. Mayella did not give a concvincing performance in court, I think. She said she had invited him in to chop a chiffarobe, and he attacked her. She wasn't convincig to me, due to the way she stated things.

3. I think Tom Robinson was convicted simply because he was a black man going against a white woman. Jem reacts badly, in complete shock, and he feels very sick.

4. Tom's saying that he felt sorry for the girl affected the trial, because it was completely unheard of and offensive to to the white people.

5. There has been little mention of the Radley house in this section, so it must be somewhat calm. Jem thinks Boo wants to stay inside because of the hatred and stuff.

6. Aunt Alexandra refuses to let Walter over simply because she doesn't like his family. She thinks they're trash. Scout reacts to this by going to her room and crying.

7. Jem thinks Atticus is brave, because he took a spit in the face to deflect Ewells anger away from Mayella, so she wouldn't be beaten again.

8. I really do think this was true. I do not think it's anywhere near as true today, though we still have plenty of racist people around in the United States.
